In celebration of International Nurses Day, Assisting Hands Home Care Monmouth is recognizing Stephen Hoelle, RN-BC, our director of nursing.
Stephen loves to teach and help patients manage their health care situation by coming up with creative solutions to meet long- and short-term home care needs. He works with every patient and their family to help them navigate their circumstances, keeping them safe and healthy at home.
Developing these long-term relationships is the best part of his job. “When I worked in a hospital I’d see patients for a few days and then they were gone, usually never to be seen again,” he says. “I have been here for 18 months and many of the clients we service were here when I started, so we have had plenty of time to get to know each other.”
These deep relationships help Assisting Hands provide exceptional care that enriches the lives of clients of all ages and situations by helping them remain happy and at home.
Stephen educates caregivers on the importance of client dignity and respect while providing direct client care to promote their independence. He assesses each client and works with them to develop a plan of care that not only meets the client’s needs but supports their significant other and family members as well.
Stephen meets with clients and caregivers regularly to review and revise the plan of care as needed while establishing and maintaining a team approach to providing service to families.
Nursing wasn’t Stephen’s first career. Before health care, he was in the construction industry where he enjoyed what he did, but the instability of the business cycle was wearing on his family.
“I responded to my community’s request for people to train in EMS as EMTs,” he says. “I took the EMT course and was reminded of how interested I was in health care. I chose to become a nurse as I spent four years caring for my community working full-time as an EMT. Getting my nursing education was very rewarding and caring for patients is fulfilling.”
Stephen’s work in nursing includes managing a dementia unit, home care nursing, and assisted living. He is board-certified in medical-surgical nursing and a member of the New Jersey State Nurses Association and the American Nurses Association.
Thank you Stephen for your dedication to our clients and their families!
